Every organisation has processes through which judgements of various kinds are made. Sometimes these processes are severely deficient. More typically, there is scope for improved efficiency and quality. Drawing on our expertise in cognitive science, and our experience working with many different organisations, we are able to provide objective, insightful reviews of cognitive processes and propose enhancements.
A military organisation was grappling with the widespread sense that there were problems with its official method for making operational decisions. It engaged van Gelder & Monk to review the method and its implementation in light of worldwide best practice and insights from cognitive science. We delivered a substantial report with numerous recommendations.

A fund manager making large investment decisions wanted to improve the efficiency of its top-level decision making. Infrastructure investments typically have complex risk profiles and decision makers must be able to quickly and thoroughly assess these profiles. van Gelder & Monk reviewed the way risks are analysed and presented by investment teams and pointed out various easily-implementable ways the process could be improved.

An elite Australian sports team, at the top of its league, was interested to investigate the scope for increasing their competitive edge by improving the decision making of its coaching team. A cognitive process review conducted over a six month period identified the types of decisions made by the coaches as a team, and the challenges involved in lifting their "hit rate." We delivered a substantial report with 20 recommendations for improving decision making and their use of data & analytics.
